1:00-2:00pm: Exhibitor Showcase: Tuneful Tech: Repair Q&A & Winning the Mental Game: Rethinking Popular Beliefs about Performance Anxiety with Nicholas Pallesen

Join Metropolitan Opera Baritone and New World Symphony Faculty Member Nicholas Pallesen as he reveals a fresh, new perspective on performance anxiety and why, to quote the 1980’s film “War Games”, “The only winning move is not to play.” Learn why shining in performances and auditions might not require needing to conquer nerves, developing a positive mindset, finding a pre-performance routine, or “getting in the zone".

2:30-3:30pm: How to Encourage Your Students (and Yourself!) Down a Path Less Traveled with Hilary Abigana

Not every music student will get an orchestra position or a university teaching job, but every dedicated student deserves the opportunity to find their unique path. Hilary Abigana offers tips for teachers (and students!) to help shine the light on a path less traveled.

Tired of the same warmup day after day? Learn some new ones at this class led by Dr. Carmen Lemoine. Each exercise lasts only 5 minutes and can be combined with others to make a longer routine that addresses your specific needs. Be sure to have your flute on hand!

Looking to incorporate extended techniques into your performance? This interactive workshop will cover the basics of approaching music for flute that includes extended techniques. Learn how to interpret the score, practice effectively, and how to program a performance! Students should have their flutes onhand - musical excerpts and practice guide provided!
